Funding: Fairbridge gives funds for services

The 2.2m will be the first award from the National Grants Programme of the Young People's Fund.

The charity, which works with excluded young people in disadvantaged areas, will use the grant to fund a three-year programme of work with under-16s, which will be called U16.

The award covers work in England, but Fairbridge also intends to run similar programmes in Wales and Scotland.

A spokeswoman for the Big Lottery Fund said a decision on further awards from the 27.6m National Grants Programme will be made in November, with announcements likely to be made in December.

She added that the board has agreed to put another 100m into the Young People's Fund, to be allocated from next year.
