Funding: Community training scheme given grant

Trafford Hall in Cheshire was given the money for its Young Movers programme, which works with 11- to 16-year-olds across the UK. The three-year grant will allow more young people to undergo training on helping their peers to set up community projects.

Mike Amos-Simpson, youth programme co-ordinator at Trafford Hall, said: "The most effective groups we've worked with have not been those led by professional youth workers, but those supported by volunteers."

Amos-Simpson said a community project could be anything from an activity day to helping elderly people with shopping. "The only restriction is that it can't just benefit the people on the course," he said.
