Richard House, a key member of the Open Eye campaign that was set up last year in opposition to the EYFS, told CYP Now that he believes the Department for Children, Schools and Families has designed the exemption procedure to stop people opting out. “It’s been deliberately created so it’s impossible to get through. We’re continually contacted by people in despair,” he said.
House’s concerns have been echoed by a number of people working in the sector contacted by CYP Now, who indicated that some childminders who considering seeking an exemption had been put off by the long and convoluted nature of the process. Others told CYP Now they had not even been made aware that the opportunity to seek an exemption existed.
