The organisation now plans to elect at least one funded and non-funded school to give the procedure a trial run.
The new framework for early learning in England has recently been criticised for its complicated exemptions procedure. To date, nobody has attempted to apply for exemption (CYP Now 16-22 October). Steiner schools, whose early years curriculum does not include reading or writing, are likely to be the first to apply as their approach conflicts with some of the literacy and language elements of the EYFS.
A spokeswoman for the Steiner Fellowship said: "There are more schools considering exemptions but they are unsure because we don't know what the process will involve. There is also a concern that we do not lose funding through exemptions."
