First request for EYFS exemption

Early Years Education
A school in Gloucestershire has become the first in the country to apply for exemption from some elements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Graeme Whiting, headmaster of the Acorn School in Nailsworth, has requested exemption from areas of the EYFS that will require children to be tested on literacy and numeracy, and use computers.

Whiting claims that the school, which was rated outstanding by Ofsted in its last inspection, does not promote GCSEs or A-Levels, but has a 100 per cent rate of pupils being accepted by their university of choice.
