Europe: Young people plan Brussels lobby visit

1 min read
Young people are marking European Youth Week next month with a trip to Brussels to show politicians what issues need to be addressed to improve their quality of life.

The British Youth Council's UK presidency project officer Daniel Smith will accompany 11 young people with their message to the European Commission for Youth Takes the Floor, a two-day conference on youth policy.

The council gathered views from young people at Rebel Youth, which it organised this month with support from Connect Youth, the British Council-run national agency for the commission's European Youth Programme. Activities including video diaries were used to gather areas of concern such as the media portrayal of young people and drugs and alcohol abuse.

Juan Toledo, advice and information manager at Connect Youth, said: "We have to get serious about involving young people, otherwise these problems might just expand to other European countries."

European Youth Week runs from 5 to 9 December.
