Europe: Young people need input into Europe

Bill Rammell, a minister at the Department for Education and Skills, told a Local Government Association conference on youth that there is a "significant disconnect" between European policy and the lives of young people in the UK.

Rammell said that while the Government is trying to increase young people's choice, through measures such as the opportunity card scheme, it is important that they also have a voice on European issues.

European Youth Week is being held from 5-11 December. Rammell said: "We need to think about how we can get the most benefit from the programme and, particularly, how disadvantaged young people can participate."
