The survey of 12- to 25-year-olds, conducted by the British Youth Council in partnership with the other main UK youth forums, also showed a majority of young people wanting the UK Government to involve them more in European issues.
The survey results informed young people's discussions at the first EU Youth Summit, held at the weekend, to mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, which established the European Economic Community.
Five young people from the UK's main youth forums were due to attend.
Emma Laverie, development officer for the Scottish Youth Parliament, said that limited resources meant organisations had only been able to send over-18s to the summit, as they needed less support: "We've supported the delegates and spent our own project money. If we had more funding we could send younger people, who could learn a lot from it." www.europa.eu/50/index_en.htm.
