Europe: Poland criticised for homophobia

The Polish Section Committee of the European Youth Programme (now Youth in Action) rejected a funding application on the grounds that it would "propagate homosexual behaviour and attitudes among young people". The European Commission condemned the decision.

Daniel Smith, the British Youth Council's international officer, said: "Youth in Action is about equal rights and empowering the disadvantaged. This campaign is to get the UK Government to act on human rights abuses through the commission, and directly with Poland."
