Education News: Transition - Secondary pupils share experience

Advice on making friends and coping with a new lesson style feature in a magazine written by pupils from six Portsmouth secondary schools to reassure primary school leavers.

The Transition Mission special edition of young people's magazine Explode was created by South East Hampshire YMCA after consulting Year 6 pupils, who said they found the idea of changing schools scary.

YMCA's children's work director Peter Cooper said the magazine helped calm the nerves of younger pupils while making the older children think about how to treat new arrivals.
