Teachers in Wales are to get more support in helping children make the transition from primary to secondary school.
Launching guidance for teachers last week, minister for education and lifelong learning Jane Davidson described the transition as a "daunting experience" for children.
Standards at the end of Key Stage 3 indicate schools don't always capitalise on their pupils' "positive attitude, enthusiasm and spirit" developed at primary school, she said.
The Qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales is sending copies of its Bridging the Gap guidance to schools.
