Jane Davidson, Wales's education minister, recently announced 400,000 to expand the existing service when she launched A NationalStrategy for a School-based Counselling Service in Wales. She said: "Thestrategy has been developed in response to a recommendation in thechildren's commissioner's Clywch inquiry report (on child abuse), whichthe Welsh Assembly Government accepted in 2004."
Maria Battle, the acting commissioner, said: "The delay in reaching thispoint has been regrettable but I'm extremely pleased with theannouncement. It has the potential to make a huge difference to thelives of children and we need to ensure that there is adequate andconsistent funding to help that happen."
