Participation in Action: Ambassadors support pupils' school transition

Secondary school pupils across an area of North Suffolk are supporting primary school children with their transition into secondary school

Provider Waveney Youth Council

Name The Transition Ambassadors Project

As a year 6 pupil, moving from primary into secondary school can be a daunting and stressful process, taking on a new environment, making new friends and starting the journey to adolescence.

The Transition Ambassadors Project, designed by Waveney Youth Council, sees year 9 and 10 pupils within the Waveney district secondary schools take on “transition ambassador” roles to help primary school children settle in.

The peer support network, which launched in July 2015, was designed after a district-wide survey identified the transition process between primary and secondary schools as something that can be challenging for students.
