Education News: Supplementary schools - Pilot for managerqualification ends

The pilot of a qualification for managers of supplementary schools ended last week.

The level two qualification was provided by the National Resource Centrefor Supplementary Education, part of the charity ContinYou. The fundingfor the qualification came from a 675,000 Department forEducation and Skills grant for supplementary schools.

The centre is now looking to launch a qualification for those teachingin supplementary schools and establish a network of trainers who will beable to teach the qualifications across the country.

Angela Bell, head of quality and involvement at the centre, said thereare an estimated 5,000 supplementary schools in the UK.
