Education News: Extended schools - MBA for managers will start this year

The lack of leadership training for extended schools managers is to be tackled by a new advanced qualification.

Education charity ContinYou, which supports the extended schools initiative, has teamed up with Hull University's International Educational Leadership Centre to develop an MBA in Leading Community Learning.

The first course will start this September and finish July 2005. It will be spread across 12 days of lectures and comprise two modules: learning and social capital, and leadership for learning.

Teaching unions have expressed concern over the leadership training available for head teachers of extended schools, and the extra burden the provision of extended services creates (News, 26 May- 1 June).
