Julian Piper, national pro-gramme director for ContinYou, told a conference last week that governors were the key to making extended schools a success.
But he said training was urgently needed to bring them up to speed, and warned there was a risk communities could lose out if extended schools merely relied on the vision of the head teacher.
The training will be piloted during the spring term before being made available nationally.
