Education News: Extended schools - Heads get training to aidchangeover

Head teachers are to get new training in leading extended schools following revelations that many are struggling to adapt to the new agenda.

The National College for School Leadership is developing a course afterits own research made it clear that heads urgently need extra trainingto deal with the demands of extended opening hours.

Maggie Farrar, assistant director of programmes at the college, said:"The move towards extended schooling is very complex and it is crucialthat head teachers get plenty of support as they make thistransition.

"We will launch an extended school leadership programme in the springthat will directly address this need by offering practical insights andadvice. It will consist of a series of workshops, each of which willhave participants from another children's service agency, such as socialservices, health and youth justice."
