Education News: Extended schools - College told to prepare school leaders

The National College for School Leadership has been tasked with ensuring school leaders are prepared to meet the extended schools agenda.

In a letter to the chair of the college, education secretary AlanJohnson set out the organisation's targets and objectives for the nextyear.

One priority is the development of new models of leadership, whichJohnson said are "central to the college's work to develop leaders towork effectively in new environments".

He went on to say the head teacher's qualification the NationalProfessional Qualification for Headship must continue to "equip emergingleaders to lead the schools of tomorrow, as well as today".

The letter also highlights a review into school leadership byconsultants PricewaterhouseCoopers, which recommended using non-teachersin senior management posts, rather than head teachers, as a way ofmeeting the extended schools agenda.
