Cash boost for out of school lessons

Education
Work to develop supplementary schools in England and make them more self-sufficient has been given further funding.

There are an estimated 3,000 supplementary schools that open after school and on weekends offering activities such as language classes, cultural studies, sport and drama.

Education charity ContinYou's National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education has now received an additional £300,000 from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation over the next two years. The Department for Children, Schools and Families has also put in extra funds.

Paul Morrish, director of external affairs at ContinYou, said: "The centre will focus on establishing a sector able to boast of high-quality provision."
