Education News: Parliament - Commons committee to focus on SEN

Investigating special educational needs policy will be a toppriority for the Commons education and skills committee in the nextParliamentary session.

Labour MP Barry Sheerman, strongly tipped to be re-elected as chair'said the committee was keen to explore whether a fundamental rethinkingof the policy of inclusion was needed.

He said: "If I become chair we will have an early inquiry into inclusionand the debates Baroness Warnock raised. We haven't looked at the issuefor a long time and it seems appropriate to do so."

He said the committee would also hold an inquiry on bad classroombehaviour, and revealed the children's commissioner for England,Professor Al Aynsley-Green, would be called in front of the committee inOctober.
