Education News: Statementing - Select committee gathers evidence

Parliament's Education and Skills Select Committee has launched a drive to gather evidence on changing the statementing process for children with special educational needs. But professionals have urged caution.

The committee is looking for ways to separate the assessment of specialeducational needs from the funding of services.

Labour MP Barry Sheerman, the committee's chair, told Children Now: "Myhope is that we will come out with two to four sound ideas." But BrianLamb, chair of the Special Educational Consortium, said: "I am concernedthe committee seems to think there is a magic bullet that will solvethis issue."
