The Government has confirmed it will dedicate more money to expandingits Reading Recovery programme as reported by Children Now earlier thisyear (27 April-3 May). The Department for Education and Skills haspledged 5m to the Every Child a Reader project, which willimplement the expansion.
The project has been developed by a coalition that includes the KPMGFoundation and the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. The coalition will spenda further 5m on the project, which will place specialist literacyteachers in schools across 20 local education authorities. Ofsted'sformer director of inspection, Jim Rose, who is leading aGovernment-funded review of literacy teaching, said: "This project willprovide an insight into how best to support children with literacydifficulties."
