Education News: Literacy - Leeds nominates 13 reading champs

Thirteen men in Leeds have been nominated as national reading champions for their voluntary work in helping children improve their literacy.

They volunteered at inner-city schools through schemes organised by the Leeds education charity Learning Partnerships.

The reading champions scheme is part of the National Reading Campaign run by the National Literacy Trust.

Brian Stone, one of the volunteers, said: "One girl was unable to tell the time, so I decided to help her with that as well. She is now very competent."
