Education News: Literacy - Let's Learn scheme launched in Leeds

Children in Leeds are set to benefit from a new literacy scheme after research revealed that one in four young people in some parts of the city had no-one to read with outside school.

The education charity Learning Partnerships has launched the Let's Learn project as a successor to its successful Read It scheme (Children Now, 3-9 March).

Amanda Baxter, Let's Learn co-ordinator for the charity, said the scheme would focus more on developing children's writing skills, responding to teachers' concerns that pupils were falling behind in this area.

Let's Learn aims to boost literacy levels among children aged between seven and 12 using reading, writing and ICT activities.
