EDUCATION NEWS: Funding - Leeds kids benefit from action zone

Children in the most deprived area of Leeds are to benefit from a new education action zone.

The scheme will recruit volunteers from the local community and businesses to help children with their reading, and enable schools within the area to share examples of best practice.

Education charity Learning Partnership, which will manage the zone, has received a grant of £150,000 from the DfES Excellence in Cities programme, which targets deprived urban areas with extra resources. A further £40,000 per year will be available to match private-sector funds raised by the zone.
