Education News: Attainment - Extra lessons for poorer children

Pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds who struggle at school should be given access to extra classes and tuition, according to the findings of a major Government-commissioned report.

The Report of the Teaching and Learning 2020 Review Group calls for asharper focus on personalised learning in order to address the lowerattainment among pupils from poor backgrounds.

The report says: "Pupils and their parents could be offered a range ofoptions, some provided by the school, some by other approvedproviders."

Review group member Jim Rose said: "Personalising learning means takinga more structured and responsive approach to each child's learning, sothat all pupils, whatever their background or ability, make goodprogress, achieve and participate."
