Education News: Funding - MPs want to target deprived children

An influential parliamentary committee has urged the Government to develop a new system for directing extra funding towards pupils from deprived backgrounds.

A new report by MPs on the Education and Skills Select Committeewelcomes the recent additional funding of 335m in this area, butsays it is not reaching poor children in certain local authorities.

The report states: "The Government should develop with local authoritiesa system to direct additional funding at individual pupils fromdisadvantaged backgrounds wherever they live."
