Schools minister Jim Knight spoke out as it emerged that the bakerychain Greggs is developing an extensive breakfast club programme. Hesaid: "I don't see any problems if it's a benign sponsor. It has got tobe done on a basis that does not promote junk food. Schools need to makesure there is a separation between the product and the sponsorship."
The minister was speaking at a Labour Party conference fringe event onextended schools organised by the National Association of Head Teachersand the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL).
He declined to comment specifically on the Greggs scheme, stating: "Idon't know the fat content of their sausage rolls."
