EDUCATION NEWS: Education stats - Glasgow

36.4% of primary school pupils take free school meals (16.8 per cent in Scotland)

92 exclusions per 1,000 pupils (50 in Scotland)

1.9 half days unauthorised absence per primary school pupil (1.2 in Scotland)

19% of school leavers enter full-time higher education (32 per cent in Scotland)

But Glasgow says the work of its education service is bearing fruit. The figure of 92 exclusions per 1,000 pupils in 2002-03, for instance, is a reduction on the previous year's figure of 96.
