2.05% of half-days missed due to unauthorised absences in secondary schools in 2002/03 (1.07 per cent in England)
A spokesman for Bristol City Council said: "In its inspection last May, Ofsted described Bristol as 'a city where learning comes first'. Measures aimed at improving attainment and tackling the issue of non-attendance have already been put in place. The latest attendance figures published last year showed improvement although much remains to be done. Attainment has also improved at key stage 4."
