1 min read
Parents of disabled children are taking on the role of lead professional as part of a trial scheme by Telford & Wrekin Council.

Through the scheme, around five parents have taken up the role, whichthe council says gives them a greater input into their child's care andinvolves them chairing "team around the child" meetings.

Barbara Evans, the council's head of safeguarding and corporateparenting, said: "This is about helping parents to have a greater say inthe care of their child.

"When it comes to disabled children and in particular those with complexneeds, the parents are the experts on their care so this scheme madesense."

She said the scheme will be reviewed by parents and the council in thecoming months, adding, "it seems to be running well so I hope that itcarries on and is developed further".
