Disability: Ministers promise 340m in deal to transform services

Ministers this week promised 340m to transform England's disabled children's services in what campaigners have hailed as a victory for children.

Treasury minister Ed Balls announced the three-year funding package onMonday (21 May) to coincide with the publication of Aiming High forDisabled Children, a review of disabled children's services that is partof the Government's 2008/11 Comprehensive Spending Review.

The review and its funding was hailed as a success for the EveryDisabled Child Matters campaign, which launched last year with supportfrom Children Now to fight for better services for disabledchildren.

Thanking the campaign and Children Now, Balls said: "We have reached aset of recommendations and commitments that will make a difference andcreate a local and national focus on disabled children as a key priorityfor Government."
