1 min read
Disability campaigners are calling for a radical overhaul of disabled childcare services, including the setting up of a dedicated fund to pay for staff training and extra places.

The plans are part of the Every Disabled Child Matters campaign, launched by Contact a Family, the Council for Disabled Children, Mencap, and the Special Educational Consortium (Children Now, 20-26September).

At the Labour Party conference this week, the campaigners released apolicy report, called Between a Rock and a Hard Place, which also callsfor targets on boosting the number of disabled childcare places and theimplementation by all local authorities of a local disability childcarestrategy.

Campaign manager Steve Broach said: "A lot of promises have been madeabout disabled children's services but they are no good unless they arebacked up with resources. We have launched this campaign to make surethe Government makes good on its promises."
