NCB Now: 340 million for disabled children

The Every Disabled Child Matters campaign, based at NCB, is celebrating this week as the Government commits an extra 340 million for disabled children and their families.

The announcement came out of the disabled children's review, which waslaunched at the Every Disabled Child Matters and Capita conference onMonday 21 May 2007.

Economic Secretary, Ed Balls MP, said at the conference: "When I spokeat the Rachel Squire Memorial Lecture in February, I was clear that whenwe say that every child matters, we mean every disabled child too.Delivering on our vision in today's review is a further sign of thatcommitment across Government."

The funding package includes a specific grant of 280m for shortbreaks, 35m for childcare, 19m for a Transition SupportProgramme which focuses on young disabled people's transition toadulthood, and 5m to help more parents get involved in shapingservices at a local level, including through parents forums.
