Every Disabled Child Matters, which launched on Monday (18 September) at the Liberal Democrats' party conference, included the idea in a 10-point list of demands to ministers.
The group, which consists of Mencap, Contact a Family, the Council for Disabled Children and the Special Educational Consortium, also wants every family with a disabled child to have access to a key worker, and every extended school and children's centre to deliver a full range of services to disabled children.
Steve Broach, campaign manager for Every Disabled Child Matters, said dedicated services for disabled young people were necessary because their needs often get squeezed between those of children and adults. "The adolescent services would sit alongside the restructured children's services in local areas," he said.
