Disability: Balls makes call for wholesale changes to service provision

1 min read
The chancellor's right-hand man Ed Balls has called for wholesale change in the way services are provided to disabled children.

Balls told Children Now that a new review was a "hugely important"opportunity to overhaul services for disabled children and theirfamilies. He said: "The question isn't simply are we doing enough, butare we doing it in the right way? Are we finding ways to get to familiesbefore they've got to crisis point?"

The one-off review was ordered by Balls earlier this year and got underway last week. It is being led by MPs and consists of a series of publichearings taking place in the House of Commons. Its findings will be fedto the Treasury and could lead to more money for the sector in the 2007comprehensive spending review.
