York parents set up forum on disability

Health
A group of parents in York have created a council-backed forum to improve disabled children's access to services.

Children and Inclusion (Candi) aims to help disabled children and their families lead full lives by improving the quality and quantity of local services and providing support to each other as a social group.

The forum will also promote equality, encourage inclusive attitudes and practice towards disabled young people and challenge discrimination.

Although set up by a group of parents, Candi has received support from the City of York Council's children's services department. The group plans to look at improving disabled children's access to play services as one of its first tasks.
