Cornwall forum for disabled children

1 min read Health Social Care
Disabled children will get to tell Cornwall County Council what they think of local children's services thanks to a two-year advocacy project.

The project, run by children's charity Barnardo's, will give disabled and vulnerable children a forum for making sure the council listens to their views on local services.

The independent advocates at the Cornwall Independent Visitor and Advocacy Service will tell the council what young people think and encourage them to speak up themselves.

Beccie Mannall, the project spokeswoman, said: "The work usually involves a short-term relationship, such as supporting a child to make a complaint or being with them at a child protection conference."

She added: "An independent visitor provides longer-term advice and befriending. Although they can act as an advocate, their main role is about sharing knowledge."
