ContactPoint: Consultation on Proposed Amendments to the Children Act 2004 Information Database (England) Regulations 2007

The Department for Children, Schools and Families is seeking views on three changes to the ContactPoint regulations. These regulations are the legal framework behind the operation of the database and came into force on 1 August 2007.

The proposed changes include simplifying the definition of "parental responsibility" and amending the terminology regarding specialist or targeted services to the phrase "additional services". The proposals will also see the government introducing a recommendation from Sir Roger Singleton's review of safeguarding in independent schools: that ContactPoint will cover every child living in England and any child from outside England that attends school there. The results are due to be published in spring 2010.
