Consultation launched on changes to ContactPoint

The government has launched a consultation on proposed changes to the controversial ContactPoint database.

ContactPoint, which will eventually contain details of 11 million children and young people, came into force in August 2007 to allow professionals working with children to see what contact they have had with other services.

The proposed changes include:

Children's minister Delyth Morgan confirmed the national rollout of ContactPoint was on track and practitioners could start to be trained and access the system from late October.

She said: "We have received early feedback from the pathfinder areas that demonstrates the positive ways ContactPoint is helping practitioners in their day-to-day work to intervene earlier and prevent problems escalating."
