Consultation of the Week: Commission on Integration and Cohesion

The Commission on Integration and Cohesion is seeking views on how different communities in England get along. It is also asking what more can be done to bring people together by respecting differences but developing a sense of belonging.

The commission believes there are many positive aspects of havingcommunities with a wide mix of people, but recognises there are concernsabout how to respond to demographic changes. The consultation sets outseven key questions for national agencies, local bodies andindividuals.

Topics include what cohesion and integration mean, what tensions existin communities and how can negative perceptions be counteracted. Thecommission will publish its report in June 2007.
