Consultation of the week: Making Good Progress

The Department for Education and Skills is seeking views on what else can be done to help every pupil to make good progress at school. While there have been improvements in school standards, the department says that some pupils may still not be making enough progress.

The consultation document sets out a proposal to pilot four newapproaches: changes to assessment, such as more frequent and shortertests; individual tuition for pupils who are not making enough progressin English and maths; school targets, including a measure of how pupilsare progressing; and a premium for schools who have achieved success inreaching targets.

The DfES will publish its response to the consultation by the end ofApril.
