CONNEXIONS: Merseyside advisers seconded to NHS

Joan Holcroft and Julia Bond, from Connexions Greater Merseyside, are now working with Cheshire and Merseyside Strategic Health Authority.

Working out of Merseyside Community College, Holcroft and Bond are six months into a two-year recruitment and retention project funded through the health authority.

Holcroft said: "We're going to pupils in Year 9 to promote jobs. Young people need to know there's more to it than just doctors and nurses."

She and Bond are working on the authority's 10-year plan for recruitment, retention and returners. This will encourage NHS trusts to take on work experience trainees as part of "opening doors" to young people looking for careers in health.
