CONNEXIONS: Merseyside personal advisers strike over contract dispute

1 min read

Disputes about the joining up of the careers services have caused a rift between management and employees, who claim a contract had been imposed on them without discussion.

Unison, the union representing the advisers, claims 84 per cent of staff voted for action on performance-related pay, an uneven pay structure and new working hours.

However, according to Connexions Greater Merseyside management, only one issue is in dispute. It has proposed that staff who work 35 hours a week will increase this to 36 hours for a one-off payment of 250.

Kieran Gordon, chief executive of Connexions Greater Merseyside, said: "The union's actions are pre-emptive. The new employment contracts are fair, affordable and competitive with other partnerships and youth services. Incremental advance within a grade will occur according to competence and supported by training."
