Childminding: Scottish review to help regulators

The first national review of the quality of childminding in Scotland will allow regulators to target areas for improvement, says the Care Commission.

The review, due out in May, will look at a wide range of data gatheredincluding inspection reports and interviews with parents.

"It will allow us to target the areas requiring improvement and help usassess our own strategy for driving forward these improvements," saidRonnie Hill, the commission's director of children's servicesregulation.

Meanwhile, childcare statistics published by the Scottish Executive showthat the overall shortage of workers is hitting some of the mostdeprived parts of Scotland hardest with more long-term staff vacanciesin disadvantaged areas.
