Best thing I ever did: Nifraz Raheem, 18, Glasgow

I came to Glasgow from Sri Lanka six years ago with my family. My school was very welcoming; the head teacher worked hard to encourage me. I was a prefect in the fifth year, and in the sixth year I was made school captain and became chair of Glasgow City Council's students' council.

Now I'm a partner in Glasgow Wide, a film-making organisation that helps integration between international and indigenous young people, through issue-based films.

On 31 March, I was announced the winner of the Sunday Mail Young Scot awards. It was one of the best nights of my life. Young people get a lot of negative publicity, so to see them honoured was great.
