What did it involve? The Berrymede pupils, all aged 10 and 11, spent seven months renovating the playground. They planted new flowerbeds, painted murals and created mosaics.
Why did they do it? The project was part of the Big Lottery-funded Community Space Challenge, a national initiative to help young people transform public spaces, gain skills and build pride in their community. The scheme is run by youth charity Catch 22.
How was it funded? Ealing Council's youth inclusion and support panel received a five-year £58,000 grant from the Community Space Challenge. The Berrymede playground revamp is the second project to benefit from this cash.
