Back Page: My Week - One small step creates one gigantic hole

MONDAY: Begin the week hoping Together for Children's predictions about children's centre delivery numbers will not suffer the ceiling collapse I experienced at the weekend.

Life on the domestic front is not calm when your son has been in the loft and put his foot through the ceiling, bringing down clouds of ancient Victorian plaster dust into a newly decorated stairwell.

TUESDAY: No signs (thankfully) of any other collapses as I discuss with colleagues the latest delivery issues. A few places have met unexpected hitches but the speed at which new services are now being signed off as "ready to go" is staggering.

People must be working their socks off to make all this happen and the numbers of children now in reach of a centre has increased exponentially since Christmas.
