I am becoming obsessed with building works so I arrive this morning in the contrasting splendour of the House of Lords and cast an expert eye over Committee Room 2 looking for signs of damp before focusing on the real reason for being in such a grand place.
The Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Local Government Association's Narrowing the Gap project, which aims to improve children's trusts by boosting the outcomes of vulnerable children, is holding an evidence session. Some fantastic programmes are presented to the panel. It's easy to see recurrent themes about what really works.
Tuesday: I might stop my subscription to the local gym. Lugging around the papers that have emerged on children's services in recent weeks is building Madonna-like muscles - although not the wealth and fame. Shall I read the play strategy next or focus on the children's workforce? Settle for the latter since I'm a member of the expert group set up by Ed Balls to look at Next Steps. I read with trepidation the many issues on which advice is being sought and wonder if my brain muscles are too puny for the task.
