Back Page: My week - A rendition of The Proclaimers in sandals

1 min read Social Care
MONDAY - Team meeting first thing this morning. Fourteen children are booked on a singing workshop tomorrow. The week starts on a happy note as we practise our scales. Until someone comments that I sound just like The Proclaimers - the cheek!

TUESDAY - Design a sexual health training course for Barnardo's staff. Workers are still uncertain about confidentiality and under-16s, so I check it out with our policy people. The line between safeguarding young people and promoting positive sexual health is a very fine one to balance.

WEDNESDAY - I attend a meeting with our participation worker, a young care leaver, to discuss mentoring for young people entering employment and education.

We draw up a pilot project proposal and agree timescales and outcomes. Having a young person working in the team has brought a breath of fresh air to the service.

THURSDAY - Meeting in the office with a colleague who has been a social worker for years. We discuss the profession and how undervalued it is in the UK compared with other European countries.
